She's Crafty

These are the little things that have been keeping me busy lately:

• a Mighty Boosh-themed embroidery. I'm somehow both super excited about this (mostly just because I love the Boosh and because of the shiny silver thread), but also not super happy with the way it turned out. It's part of a continuing theme of making tv-show related things. I used to have a portrait of the Bluth Family I painted somewhere, but I don't know what's happened to it. Pity.
• a t-shirt with iron-on letters because what adult doesn't need a t-shirt with her name on it? It makes me feel like I'm in the Mickey Mouse Club or something.
• the new Beatles Live at the BBC album. This just arrived yesterday and I'm totally in love with it. I was just talking with my sister about the Beatles the other day and mentioned that it doesn't even occur to me to name the Beatles when people ask what kind of music I like or what my favourite band is. Because I just assume that everyone loves them as much as I do (which I know isn't true, but it blows my mind and I prefer not to think of how anyone could not like them).

(and yeah, I know the song "She's Crafty" isn't about crafts...)

Are 'Friends' Electric?

I've been trying to be more productive lately. And that means making a pin with a robot on it.

Other things I've been up to these days:

• getting excited about The Hobbit
• watching a lot of the Mighty Boosh
• sewing a faux fur coat (don't ask me why)
• stressing out that it's almost time for the holidays.

I'm Your Villain

Happy Halloween to those inclined to celebrate it. I had convinced a few of my co-workers that it would be hilarious if we all dressed as Luigi (from Super Mario Brothers - if that even requires clarification). But this weekend I realised I did't have a green shirt and found out that everyone else had abandoned the plan as well. Boo! So I made a bear costume instead. As much as I love dressing up, I'm not super crazy about Halloween because I don't like scary stuff. So I kept my celebrating pretty low-key. It did, however, involve a pretty awesome vaguely Halloween-themed playlist.

Recent productivity

It's no secret on this blog or to anyone who has spoken with me for any period of time that I love Blur and that I consider Graham Coxon to be one of the most awesome people ever. So imagine my excitement last month, when the fabric Graham designed for Liberty was finally available on their website! I wasted no time ordering small quantities in two colors (this required considerable restraint on my part - I wanted yards and yards of it in all four colors!).

Pretty swoon-tastic, huh?

I was loath to cut the fabric, fearing I'd ruin it and thinking that anything I made wouldn't be worthy of its beauty (wow, swoon much?). I finally decided to make a shift/tunic-y thing out of the blue-ish one and a skirt out of the grey one. And I still have enough of the grey to make something else as well.

Nothing too fancy, since I didn't want to detract from the pattern. And apparently I couldn't be bothered to iron them before taking the pictures...But I'm quite happy with them and am super excited to wear them for everyone to see the awesome pattern!

And - as an update on my last post - I'm still sick with what has turned out to be pneumonia and not just a cold. Oh well. It means short work days and lots of reading and TV watching.

Bears.

A few days ago, Theodora asked if I had ever drawn a bear. And while I mostly draw myself (what an egotist!) and cats, I dug up some old drawings of bears to share.

A sketch I made for a card for a friend. I wish I could make my grandma's cat wear a sweater like this. But maybe that wouldn't be such a good idea. I've been feeling a bit down lately and seem to have taken to drawing motivational cats...
I know cats seem to be all the rage these days, but to be honest, I was never much of a cat person. I had known cats that were nice, of course, and I think cats are awfully cute, but since meeting a certain new cat, I have a new-found appreciation for them.

I went to the midnight premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at the IMAX yesterday, which was epic. We had fantastic seats and I had screen printed a t-shirt and this bag for the occasion.
