BFFs

gus: i’m sorry shawn. but you know, eventually when we’ll both get married there’s going to be certain things we can’t share with each other.
shawn: i’m trying not to think about that… we’re still going to live next door to each other though, right?
gus: hell yeah, with the pool going across both of our yards.
shawn: i’ve got dibs on the diving board.
gus: yeah, okay.

I've posted about Psych before (and often do so on my tumblr) and how Shawn and Gus remind me of me and my sister, but I just wanted to share this here as well.

The other day, my sister and I were listening to a conversation between two other siblings who weren't very close. Their conversation made me sad and I asked my sister, "What if we ever become like that?" She said we wouldn't, but I was already making a sad face, so she said, "We'll be like Shawn and Gus...with the swimming pool across our yards." Little did she know I had posted this gif on my tumblr just a few weeks earlier.

And this is why my sister and I are BFFs.

Bears.

A few days ago, Theodora asked if I had ever drawn a bear. And while I mostly draw myself (what an egotist!) and cats, I dug up some old drawings of bears to share.

Tunes for a Saturday Afternoon

(...or for whenever you need a little dance party.)

Graham Coxon and Paul Weller - This Old Town
(On Jonathan Ross with Starkey and Mani. The quality of the video is rather poor, but oh well - look at all the epicness on that one small stage!)

Two Door Cinema Club - I Can Talk

New desk + old things (part 2)

A few more things I came across during my recent desk clean-out:

An old metal pencil case I got at the Greenpeace store in Hannover. It makes the best clanking sound when carried in a school bag! Inside are:
- my first ever fountain pen from the fourth grade and some ink cartridges. The pen is a light turquoise Pelikan and I attached that bit of leather string to it from some Pocahontas activity kit thing I got for my birthday back in the day.
- a Tim und Struppi eraser
- a pair of folding scissors from a Christmas cracker
- a pen with little dogs on it
- a spare key to my room

I also came across the journal I kept when I finished school and vowed to draw a picture in pen everyday to illustrate what I did. I thought it would motivate me to do exciting things since I didn't have a job, but instead I just drew pictures of things like:

my grandma's cat

and me riding the bus.

Haircuts and other important business

Hmm. This didn't scan very clearly (my hair is also much darker). Here's what the text underneath says:
I haven't been sleeping lately and I have dark circles under my eyes. I also really need a haircut. I've been wearing it up in a Wilma Flinstone bun a lot.
My bangs also tend to curl up like that on the side when they get long. I started chopping at my hair on Saturday, then decided that was a bad idea, so I've made an appointment to get it cut this week. I'm tempted to cut it quite short, but we'll see...

Is there anything better than getting things in the mail?

I'm always excited to get mail. Even if it's just something I've ordered for myself. This arrived today. It's Graham Coxon's The Spinning Top on vinyl. It's a double LP, but I was too lazy to take more pictures and eager to share! (I'm also rather embarrassed by my already somewhat cluttered new-ish desk.)

I always like when people share music recommendations on their blogs or when they have those weekly music posts. I'm always tempted to do the same, but I find myself faced with two problems: I'm terribly inconsistent in my blogging and all of my recommendations would probably just alternate between Graham Coxon, Blur, and The Beatles. Not that that would necessarily be a bad thing.

New desk + old things

Sternenhimmel

I got a new desk recently, so I went through a bunch of old papers and things that had accumulated in my desk drawers. I came across a few forgotten things:

1. a journal with a very nice cover with some birch trees
2. an old postcard showing the Buddenbrookshaus. I found this in a library book when I was at the university.
3. glow-in-the-dark star stickers. I love the packaging.

It's nice to finally have a bigger desk surface. After the hard work of sorting through everything, I needed a snack and a cup of tea in my Marimekko cup. (I just noticed this picture also shows shows my Marimekko bag!)

Right to Pop!

I was supposed to go out on Saturday night, but decided I'd much rather stay home listening to music. Even though that's how I spend most evenings. I wanted to listen to my 45s, but my record player is still broken, so I had to use the one in the living room. Look at that white vinyl. Isn't it just swoon-worthy? Gosh.

(The first photo also give a peek at my new glasses. They're from a Japanese optical place and apparently are specially made for Asian faces (that's what the lady told me). Hopefully they work just as well with half-Asian faces.)
